The Golden Rules for Flawless Jewels: Our Guide to Jewelry Cleaning
How to Clean your Electric Picks Jewelry
If you're anything like us, you never want to take off your fave jewelry. (After all...It.Goes.With.Everything.) But if you want to keep your styles looking good-as-new, keep reading for some tips & tricks.
The first step to showing your baubles a little love? Determine whether they are gold or sterling silver plated, gold-filled or sterling silver. For an Electric Picks piece, this is easy: just reference the specific item description on our website. Once you know what kind of composition you’re working with, follow our expert cleaning tips below.
Gold-Plated or Silver-Plated
When it comes to spiffing up your gold-plated styles, less is more. All you need is a soft, plain cloth or cotton ball — or, better yet, a jewelry, microfiber or lens cloth if you happen to have one on hand. Gently rub the cloth across the surface of the jewelry until the shine has been restored.
Whatever you do, stay away from water, detergent, and polishing clothes — the latter of which typically feature tarnish removers and other polishing agents that can strip away the plating.
Pro tip: after cleaning, store your jewelry in a dry, air-tight area. We suggest using the beautiful Electric Picks PVC bag your jewelry came in, but a ziploc bag works just fine.
Gold-Filled
For cleaning gold-filled pieces, we also recommend using a jewelry, microfiber or lens cloth. Again, you’ll want to gently rub across the surface until the shine has been restored. If your gold-filled jewelry needs a little more love, you may occasionally use a mild soap and soft cloth to gently clean your bling.
As always, make sure your jewelry is fully cleaned and completely dry before storing it away in a dry, air-tight area. We like reusing the beautiful Electric Picks PVC bag your jewelry came in, but a ziploc bag also does the job.
Sterling Silver
Sterling Silver doesn't require much in terms of daily maintance, but it will oxidize over time. We recommending storing it in an air-tight area. We like reusing the beautiful Electric Picks PVC bag your jewelry came in, but a ziploc bag also does the job.
You can use a sterling silver polishing cloth to help maintain it's shine!
